Multi-unit particulate system (MUPS)

MUPS are a novel MDDS (Multi-particulate drug-delivery systems) technique for modified drug delivery. These systems release the drug with constant or variable release rates, thus maintaining drug concentration within the therapeutic window for a prolonged period of time. MUPS tablets containing sustained-release pellets will achieve sustained action and prolong the pharmacological effect, extend the dosage interval and reduce side effects

MUPS formulations are developed to achieve

Enteric-release (e.g., of acid-labile drugs), modified- or controlled-release
Oro-dispersible MUPS tablets for geriatric or pediatric patients
Taste masking-MUPs can be filled into capsules, compressed into tablets, suspended in liquids, or packed in sachets.
